Superintendent's Message

Welcome to Richmond County Public Schools!

"Excellence through Technology"
is our theme for the 2011-2012 school year.  You will see many new uses of technology this school year.  School Messenger is the new notification system.  Parents will be called daily to report student absences.  Weather emergencies and school closings will be sent through the School Messenger system. Parents/guardians please check with your child’s school to make sure your contact information is accurate. The Food Services Department has purchased and installed Café Enterprise (point of sale) for the school cafeterias.  The schools will be sending home information on how the system works. RCPS has new web pages, a new provider for instructional videos, and virtual desktop availability.  Technology allows Richmond County students to be connected to the information highway providing them with challenging learning opportunities to prepare them for college and career experiences.

Richmond County Public Schools continues to perform well on the Standards of Learning (SOLs).  Richmond County Elementary School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in reading and math. It is the collective efforts of our staff that help students do well on the Standards of Learning Tests. The plans for the new high school and school board office are being completed.  Teachers will return on August 29, 2011 and the first day of school is September 6, 2011.

RCPS will continue the “Tradition of Excellence”. I look forward to seeing parents, grandparents, and community members at school activities.  I wish everyone a successful 2011-2012 school year.  Thank you for visiting the RCPS web site.

Respectfully,

Marilyn F. Barr, Ph.D.
