Canvas Observer Transcript
What’s up raider parents and guardians? In this video we are going to look at adding yourself as an observer to your student’s canvas courses. Let’s get started.
Before we can do anything we need to get an observer code from your student.
Have your student navigate to richmond-county.insturcture.com on your web browser and then log in to Canvas. Once logged in, canvas will direct you to the dashboard.
Once on the dashboard, look at the top left of the browser. select the Account icon on the left navigation bar. That will activate a pop-out menu.
In the pop up menu, Select the Settings option. This will take you to your student’s user settings page.
On the right side of the screen and find the “Pair with Observer” button. When you select the pair with observer button, a pop up with an alpa-numeric code will appear. Use this code to pair your observer account with your student’s. The code is case sensitive so record it precisely as it is shown.
After recording the observer code, close the pop up box by selecting the “X” in the top right corner.
You will need to log out of your student’s account to create your own observer account. Select the “Account” icon again. It is on the left side of the screen, at the top of the menu. Select “Logout” under your student’s name and icon.
You are now back on the sign-in screen. At the top right you will see a link that says “Parent of a canvas user?”. Select that link. This will take you to the parent sign up screen.
Where it says “your name” type a username into that field. Fill in your email address, and enter and reenter a password.
Where it says “student pairing code,” enter the code exactly as it was written by your student’s “pair with observer” page.
Read and agree to the terms of service and privacy policy, and select start participating
You may need to log in. In this case, enter your credentials and select login.
This will take you to the dashboard. On the right, you will see your student’s To Do list with upcoming assignments.
To take a closer look at your student’s class, select the class card on the dashboard.
On the menu on the left, you will see where you can look at the assignments and your student’s grades in canvas.
Regularly checking canvas and powerschool is a great way to keep track of your student’s progress.
