2021-2022 Virtual Learning Program

What is RCVLP?

Richmond County Virtual Learning program is a tuition-free K-12 distant learning program. Our program uses the Virtual Virginia learning platform to provided students engaging and interactive K12 curriculum. Courses utilize management software to maximize learning opportunities such as video, audio, whiteboard interaction, multimedia activities and online discussion. This is a self-paced program within the parameters specified by the state law. Students will have teacher facilitators who are available for students during the progression of the course.

 

What are the RCVLP Requirements?

  • Participating students must be enrolled with the RCPS.
  • Students must have consistent reliable internet for streaming live learning sessions to participate in this program.
  • Grades K-7 must have received a minimum grade of C/Satisfactory in ALL core classes for 2020-2021.
  • Grades 8-12 must have obtained a minimum GPA of 2.0 for 2020-2021.
  • Must have achieved overall success in previous virtual learning.
  • No more than 9 unverified absences for 2020-2021.
  • All content and instruction will be provided through Virtual Virginia and is based on course availability.
  • A parent or guardian will be required to act as the mentor/facilitator and work with Virtual Virginia.
  • Virginia Virtual is a statewide program, students are required to participate in state-mandated standardized achievement tests to demonstrate content understanding and academic progress.
  • Some learning will be live (synchronous) and some will be recorded (asynchronous)
  • Requires a commitment for the entire school year.  
  • For students with a disability and/or student's requiring medical homebound, who wish to apply for virtual programming, please contact Sandra Hedrick at 804-333-3681 to determine if accommodations to the application process are necessary.  Upon submission of application, a meeting will be scheduled for students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 plan to determine how their needs can be met in the virtual setting for the 21-22 school year.

 

Mandatory Interest Meeting:

There will be a mandatory interest meeting for families at the RHS Auditorium on June 16, 2021 at 5:30pm EST.
