The Richmond County School Board has been named the 2025 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) School Board of the Year, an honor awarded annually to one outstanding school board in the Commonwealth. The announcement was made November 19, 2025 during the VSBA Annual Convention in Charlottesville.

The prestigious recognition celebrates exemplary leadership and service in public education. Judges selected the Richmond County School Board based on a strong application highlighting the Board’s collaborative and professional leadership, its commitment to providing equitable and relevant learning experiences for all students, the nurturance of positive relationships with stakeholders, and the use of clear, transparent communication processes and procedures. This year’s award was generously sponsored by Southland Industries.

“It is an incredible honor for Richmond County to be named the 2025 VSBA School Board of the Year,” said Vivian Wood, Chair of Richmond County School Board. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire board, our division leadership, our teachers, and our community who work together every day to ensure the success of every student. We are so proud of the innovative programs and partnerships that have shaped our schools, and this award affirms the positive impact of that collective commitment. It truly means the world to us to be recognized in this way.”

The Richmond County School Board was formally recognized during the VSBA Annual Convention awards luncheon and again at the opening general session. The convention brings together school board members, superintendents, division administrators, and education professionals from across the Commonwealth to share best practices and celebrate excellence in public education.
